We want to provide your child with a stick tailored just for him or her, so we’ve created a program to make it easier for kids to enjoy the game and practice their favorite sport safely with the right sticks.

With four different sizing options, the stick lengths and flex level fit youth players as they grow, enabling them to improve their shots, and help them enjoy the game. Making the right stick choice for your child easier, PLAYRITE products come in several models and price points, offering a variety of options at any budget.

Give your child the ability to learn how to properly load the stick and improve their shot and stickhandling skills at a young age.

WHEN DO I GET MY CHILD A NEW STICK?

It is recommended that a child starts their hockey season with a stick cut to eye level (without their skates on).

Once the stick is shorter than the height of their mouth (without skates on), it’s time for a new stick !

WHAT DOES FLEX MEANS?

The Flex indicates how much weight is needed to bend the stick one inch on our testing machine.Preferably, the flex should be half of the player body weight. More experienced players tend to gain in body strength which may require a stiffer stick.

PLAYRITE FLEXES

The program has four lengths and four flex levels. Softer flexes and corresponding shaft lengths help the child learn how to properly load the stick and improve their shot.

All PLAYRITE sticks increase in flex as they increase in length, yielding a seamless transition as the child grows and moves through the program.

PATTERNS

The PLAYRITE program features Sher-Wood’s most popular patterns, PP26 STASTNY (JR), PP88 RYAN II (JR/YTH) and PP28 (JR). These patterns give young players more control and facilitate stickhandling when they are first learning to play the game.

The pattern should be chosen following the players position, shooting tendencies and puck handling skills. The pattern is personal to each player.

PP26

It is an all-around pattern

PP88

Helps with puck handling and puck control

PP28

Helps with shots and puck rising

WHO BOUGHT YOU YOUR FIRST HOCKEY STICK?

The first hockey stick that was bought for me was definitely from my dad. I believe it was a $20 stick and I was just ecstatic. I will never forget the beautiful shade of yellow it was!

DO YOU THINK THE SHER-WOOD PLAYRITE PROGRAM WILL BENEFIT KIDS?

The Playrite program is absolutely perfect for kids and parents, especially kids who are just starting to play hockey. I know most parents don't know or don`t spend the time to find the right stick for their young kids, but this is crucial to maximize your kids’ fun and skills!

HOW IMPORTANT IS THE PROPER FLEX?

To find the proper stick flex is extremely important. If the stick is too whippy or too stiff, your child won’t get the proper flex out of his or her stick while shooting. As a result, they lose speed and accuracy on their shots. Finding the right flex initially can be a hard task. The Playrite sizing chart will help you find the best stick flex for your child and it will definitely help his or her game, especially when shooting the puck.

HOW IMPORTANT IS A PROPER SIZED SHAFT?

The shaft dimension of the stick is very important. Your child will have to use what is most comfortable and effective for him or her. If they have the right stick, with the right grip and flex, it's a winning combination for your child's appreciation of the game!
